Membership
Membership on the Parish Council is composed of the Pastor and 16 voting lay persons who are registered members of the parish. Nine members are selected by random drawing from a pool of interested parishioners (3-year terms). Five are selected from the Standing Committees (1-year terms), one youth representative (and one alternate youth representative) is selected by random drawing from a pool of interested youth (1-year term), and one is appointed by the Pastor (1-year term). Elections are to be held on the last Sunday in February. The names and telephone numbers of current Council members are listed weekly in the Sunday bulletin.

Meetings
The Parish Council generally meets monthly on the first Tuesday of each month. Any schedule changes are announced in the weekly bulletin. These are open meetings and anyone in the parish is welcome to attend; however, only duly elected/appointed Council members may vote.
Standing Committees of Parish Council The Standing Committees of the Parish Council are assigned various areas of responsibility and specific programs based on parish needs.

Standing Committees
The Standing Committees of the Parish Council and their purpose include:

Christian Service: Guides the Good Shepherd community in both understanding and in responding to Christ's call to serve those in need. Matthew 25, a subgroup of the Christian Service Committee, is the main branch of our parish outreach.

Education: Oversees the Christian education of our parishioners. These programs include both the youth and adult programs and the program(s) by which non-Catholics are introduced to and invited to live the Catholic faith.

Family Life: Responsible for overseeing the various ways in which the intergenerational and family needs in the parish are addressed. Our 55-Plus Club, for example, is a social program for those 55 years of age and over and functions under the Family Life Committee. Meeting times for the 55-Plus Club are announced in the bulletin.

Parish Life: Responsible for establishing Good Shepherd Church as a vital Christian community and a loving extended family.

Prayer and Worship: Responsible for making the Spirit a part of each day for members of our faith community and for making liturgy more meaningful by making sure every essential item is on hand for worship services.

Standing Committee Membership
Each Standing Committee is composed of no less than five (5) and no more than seven (7) parish members who have expressed an interest in serving on the subcommittee. From the committee members, both a Chairperson and a Standing Committee Representative to Parish Council are selected. The Chairs are elected for a two-year term and may serve no more than two consecutive terms. Names of current chairpersons may be found in the Sunday Bulletin.

Standing Committees Meetings
Unless otherwise indicated in the Sunday bulletin, the Standing Committees meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month.

Membership
Membership is set at a maximum of 9 members, each serving a 3-year term. Three members are replaced each calendar year and are selected at random in the fall from those who have expressed an interest in serving on the council. Terms commence on January 1 and expire on December 31 in the year of their expired term. Consecutive terms are limited to two years; an absence of at least 1 full year is required before full-term eligibility resumes. Current member names are listed in the Sunday Bulletin.

The Finance Council holds at least one meeting per month, usually the third Monday of the month. Dates, times, and locations of the meetings are announced in the Sunday bulletin.
